Why Should I Advertise On Adwords?

Adwords may not be the perfect advertising tool for every business. The idea of paying every time somebody walks into your virtual shop may seem a little odd when compared to ‘bricks and mortar’ shops, and your marketing needs to reflect this difference.

You really don’t want to entice people into your shop if the chances of them buying anything are small. Remember that when somebody searches for a product or service on the Internet, a lot of the time they are looking to buy there and then. If you have what they are looking for, at a good price, and they visit your shop, the chances are very high that they’ll buy something.

So who should advertise on Adwords, and who shouldn’t? Well, if you’ve got a very limited range of a lot of different products, then you will probably struggle - would you rather buy your groceries online from a corner shop or a multinational supermarket? Who’s more likely to have what you’re looking for, at the best prices?

On the other hand, if you’ve got a good range of products and your prices are reasonable, then you should be able to do well on Adwords - when somebody visits your site, looking for what you sell, you’ve got a good chance of selling them what they want.

Adwords is the biggest PPC platform, and you have the most control over what’s happening. Because Adwords measures the quality of your offering when ranking your advert, you have the opportunity to get your traffic more cheaply than your competitors, giving you an edge that’s not available on other platforms, which rely on a straight auction system.

I thought with Pandora, Yahoo SM was going to look at quality of pages as well. Is this no longer the case?

Absolutely - most of the reasons to advertise using Adwords also apply to Yahoo! as well.

This page could just as easily have been titled “Why Should I Advertise Using PPC”, but I stand by the last paragraph, that Adwords will generate the most traffic, and that you have more control over your campaign than using Yahoo! or MSN.
